Intro.

Wellon redefines wellness by focusing on the planet’s health. In collaboration with Technogym, this project explores how regenerative agriculture and agroforestry can restore soil, support biodiversity, and connect people with nature. By integrating sustainability into daily life, Wellon envisions a future where true wellness starts with a thriving environment.

My role was to lead the research, define the user journey, and shape the overall experience across both physical and digital touchpoints. This project combines digital tools with outdoor physical activity and environmental restoration, offering a meaningful alternative to traditional fitness routines.

Problem and background.

Technogym has built its legacy around helping people improve their health through movement. As the concept of wellness evolves, it’s no longer limited to physical fitness alone. Today, people seek balance across body, mind, and daily life.

However, wellness is still often treated as something you achieve through routines, gyms, or specific programs. This makes it feel distant, effortful, and at times, disconnected from people’s everyday habits and needs.

The challenge is to rethink how wellness can be approached in a more holistic, accessible, and integrated way, so that it fits naturally into how people live, not just how they exercise.

          Research & Insights.

          Desk Research

          .

          1. The Evolving Definition of Wellness

Wellness today goes far beyond just physical health.
According to the Global Wellness Institute, wellness is a proactive pursuit of holistic health—including mental, emotional, social, environmental, and spiritual well-being.

          2. The Connection Between Human and Planetary Wellness

Climate change, urban pollution, and sedentary lifestyles are increasingly harming human health.

Conversely, healthy human behavior  contributes to lower environmental impact.

          User Research

Based on the project theme and Technogym's target audience, I designed and distributed a questionnaire, collecting 78 valid responses.

          Key Insights

          1. There is a growing gap between people and nature, but also a growing desire to reconnect
            • Users are eager to engage in activities that benefit both their health and the planet.
            • Affordable and meaningful outdoor activities are highly appealing.
            • Holistic Wellness Awareness is Rising
            • Nature as a Healing Space

            HOW MIGHT WE

We asked ourselves: how might we create a service that not only supports personal wellness but also contributes to the wellness of the Earth?

            Define.

            WellON

WellON offers a guided nature-walking experience that improves both body and soil health.

Users can rent or buy a specially designed walking stick from a Technogym point, then use the relevant app to start a walk in a planned nature route.

As they walk, the stick gently aerates the soil and sows seeds. The app tracks their physical activity—such as steps, time, and calories—as well as their environmental impact, including soil coverage and planted areas.

In this way, the user contributes to reforestation and soil regeneration with every walk.

            Wellon Stick

The smart walking stick is equipped with basic sensors that collect environmental data during the walk:

This data is sent to the app in real time or synced after the walk.

            Moisture sensors detect soil humidity.

Pressure resistance provides insight into compactness or looseness of soil.

Geolocation syncs with local soil databases (public or community-fed) to determine likely soil health zones.

            Digital

Based on the current soil conditions and route environment, the app recommends the most suitable stick head to use during the walk:

            1. Seeding Head → If the soil is fertile and loose enough for planting.
            2. Aerating & Watering Head → If the soil is dry, compact, or lacking oxygen.
            3. Sowing Head → After seeding, to cover and protect the seeds for better growth.
            The app displays:

A visual alert before the walk to recommend the attachment.

Real-time guidance if changing terrain suggests switching heads mid-walk.

A summary screen showing the total contribution made with that stick head.
After each walk, the user receives:

A wellness summary: distance walked, calories burned, mood check-in.

A nature impact summary: area covered, number of seeds planted, type of soil treated.

            Offering Map

WellON turns outdoor movement into a shared journey of wellness—for people and for the planet.

At the heart of the service is a smart walking stick and a supporting app. As users walk, they track their health while helping regenerate the soil through seeding, aerating, and sowing.

The app connects everything: it guides the user, tracks personal activity and environmental impact, and helps them rent and use the right tool head for the soil.
WellON also builds a sense of community, letting users take part in local missions, track collective progress, and learn about the connection between personal wellbeing and nature.

In short, WellON motivates people to stay active outdoors while giving them simple tools to do something good for the Earth at the same time.
